Double ka meetha is a classic Hyderabadi dessert closely associated with Ramadan iftar. Made using fried bread soaked in fragrant milk syrup, it balances richness with gentle sweetness. It is often prepared ahead of time and allowed to rest so the flavours settle before serving.
6 slices bread, crusts removed ½ cup ghee or oil for frying 1 cup milk ½ cup sugar ¼ tsp cardamom powder A few saffron strands 2 tbsp chopped almonds and pistachios
Fry bread slices in ghee until evenly golden and crisp.
Simmer milk with sugar, cardamom, and saffron until lightly thickened.
Add fried bread to the milk and let it soak gently.
Garnish with nuts and rest for 10–15 minutes before serving warm.
