Italian Napolitana pasta is made with Neapolitan sauce, and makes for a quintessential dish that embodies the essence of traditional Mediterranean cuisine. The dish offers a blend of tangy and sweet flavours, making it a staple in Italian household. What's more, it is very easy to make at home. Take a look at the recipe here:
400g spaghetti or your choice of pasta 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 medium onion, finely chopped 2 garlic cloves, minced 800g tomatoes crushed Salt and pepper to taste 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity) 1 teaspoon dried oregano A handful of fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, season with salt, pepper, and oregano. Add a teaspoon of sugar if desired. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes until it thickens.
Stir in the fresh basil leaves just before serving to retain their vibrant flavor.
Toss the cooked pasta with the sauce until well coated. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
