When heatwaves make the heavy meals feel a bit too much, a chilled glass of namkeen lassi can instantly calm you down. This savoury Punjabi-style drink is cooling, hydrating and also light enough for hot summer days.
2 cups chilled curd 1 cup cold water ½ tsp roasted cumin powder ¼ tsp black salt Salt to taste 6 to 8 mint leaves 1 green chilli (optional) 1 tbsp chopped coriander Ice cubes as required
To make namkeen lassi, start by using properly chilled curd for the best creamy texture. Taking a slightly sour curd to give namkeen lassi a refreshing sharpness.
To the blender, add curd, cold water and ice cubes and blend thoroughly until the mixture turns smooth, airy and also a bit frothy on top.
Now, mix in the roasted cumin powder, black salt and regular salt to the lassi to give it an earthy flavour.
Now, blend mint leaves, coriander and green chilli (optional) into the lassi to make the lassi feel more refreshing.
Let the prepared lassi rest in the refrigerator for some time. Chilling a bit helps the flavours settle more nicely and makes every sip taste silkier.
Pour this into tall glasses and garnish with mint, cumin powder or crushed ice. You can pair it with parathas, pulao or even simple everyday lunches.
