During monsoon, atta tends to spoil quickly. It often gets infested by pests and fungus, but a few kitchen tricks can help you keep the flour safe and fresh. Tap to note the handy tricks.
Store the atta in a dry and cold place, preferably on a clean shelf in the kitchen. Heat-generating appliances should be kept away from it.
When you purchase the atta, buy it in small quantities. Once you finish the first batch, then open the other.
Always keep the flour in an airtight container. In Indian households, many people keep it in a large steel container.
You can also keep the wheat flour in the refrigerator. Similar is the case with sattu, maida, bajra atta, and other kinds of flour.
During monsoon, humidity levels are high. Therefore, ensure that the container is dry and the space is also dry to prevent the growth of moulds.
Don’t forget to regularly inspect atta. If you see any sign of pests, mould, or discolouration, remove the spoiled part immediately.
Black salt, bay leaves, and dried neem leaves are natural moisture absorbents that you can add to atta to keep it fresh.
