Pitru Paksha is a two-week period that Hindus dedicate to their ancestors. It is believed that if you offer nourishing foods to the departed, they bless you. Here is a cooking guide for you.
Shradh bhoj or sacred offering during Pitru Paksha should be sattvic. Make sure to keep the amount of spices low.
Kheer is a sweet offering made with milk, sugar, and rice. This auspicious dish is believed to impress the Gods as well as ancestors.
During these two weeks, urad dal is a staple prepared and served with rice. It is believed to be nourishing.
The shradha bhoj should also include simple vegetables like bhindi, pumpkin, ridge gourd, and bottle gourd. It is hydrating.
The meal is not complete without puri or roti. It adds carbohydrates, represents wholesomeness, and brings together the plate.
You should not taste the food while cooking. It is believed that you must offer it to the ancestors before you try it.
