If you love home-cooked meals, you cannot get over the ultimate combo of Punjabi dal fry and steamed rice. It is a complete meal in itself, not to forget that it is nourishing and a crowd-pleaser. Here is a guide you must follow.
4 tbsp arhar dal 3 tbsp masoor, moong, chana dal 1 tomato, onion 1.5+.75 cups water 2 tbsp ghee, coriander leaves ½ tsp garam masala, turmeric 1 cinnamon stick 4 garlic cloves 1-inch ginger 2-3 cloves ½ tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp lemon, coriander powder Salt to taste ½ tsp chilli powder
Wash lentils and soak them in water. Arhar can be soaked for 30 minutes, but the rest must be soaked for two hours.
Cook lentils in a pressure cooker with water, turmeric, and whole spices.
Keep lentils aside and heat ghee in a bottom kadhai. Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, ginger, onion, and garlic.
Add tomatoes and powdered spices. Cook until the ghee floats on the surface.
Pour lentils into the kadhai and cook. Adjust the consistency by adding more water. Let it thicken.
Mix lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve it with steamed rice.
