Traditional oven-baked soda bread uses baking soda instead of yeast, bringing flour and milk together into a quick dough that bakes into a crusty Irish loaf, sliced warm for butter, jam or hearty breakfasts.
500 g plain flour 2 tsp salt 1 tsp baking soda 400 ml milk 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tbsp honey
Preheat the oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper
Combine flour, salt and baking soda in a large bowl and mix evenly
Stir lemon juice into milk, then pour it into the flour mixture to form a soft dough
Shape into a round loaf and place on the tray while scoring a cross on top
Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes until the crust turns golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped
