Sambar rice is a comforting South Indian dish that you can prepare on any day. The only hassle is cooking the two recipes in separate bowls. What if you can prepare sambar and rice in a single pot? Follow this guide.
2 cups water ¼ cup toor dal ½ cup rice ½ tsp turmeric 1 diced carrot, tomato 1 tbsp tamarind paste 2 tsp sambar powder 5-6 chopped shallots 1 drumstick 1 tsp chopped garlic ½ tsp red chilli powder 1 tbsp oil 7-8 curry leaves 1 tsp mustard seeds
Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds, turmeric powder, garlic, and drumstick.
Saute shallots and tomatoes along with powdered spices, especially sambar masala.
Drop soaked rice and toor dal in the pressure cooker. Pour water.
Before sealing the lid, sprinkle extra sambar powder and a teaspoon of oil.
Cook the ingredients for 3-4 whistles. Let the pressure release after turning off the flame.
Enjoy one-pot sambar rice on any busy weekday.
