The fridge is quintessential to seamless working in the kitchen, but if the appliance is broken? Does that mean all your vegetables will go bad? Not necessarily. A few old tricks in the book can help you keep all the perishable goods safe.
A three layered bread pakora can be your easy go-to tri-colour snack.
Certain veggies like leafy greens, bell peppers, and unpeeled cucumber can be wrapped in a damp cloth. The moisture will keep them fresh.
To store tomatoes and bananas, use baskets that allow the circulation of air. Even cucumbers and a few other veggies can also be stored in these.
Keep the vegetables away from fruits that release ethylene gas, like bananas, mango, avocados, and tomatoes. They can ruin fresh produce, especially leafy greens.
Vegetables like onion and garlic don’t need refrigeration. You can simply hang them and use them when needed.
Vegetables like sweet potatoes, potatoes, beetroots, and carrots can thrive in a dark humid spot like your pantry or cupboard. Keep them in an aerated container.
When there were no refrigerators, people used to store vegetables in a clay pot. Make sure to cover the container with a damp cloth to keep the temperature cold inside.
