These baked sweet potato fries offer a wholesome, guilt-free snacking option during Navratri 2026 fasting days. Tossing sweet potato batons with arrowroot powder or tapioca starch creates a delicate outer coating that crisps up beautifully in the oven without deep frying. Seasoned simply with rock salt, roasted cumin, and red chilli powder, they deliver a satisfying combination of natural sweetness and savoury spice.
2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into uniform fries 1 tablespoon arrowroot powder or tapioca starch (vrat-friendly) 1.5 tablespoons peanut oil or pure ghee 1 teaspoon rock salt (sendha namak) 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder or black pepper 1 tablespoon lemon juice Chopped fresh coriander for garnish
Soak the cut sweet potato batons in cold water for twenty minutes, then drain and pat them completely dry with a clean kitchen towel.
Toss the dry sweet potatoes in a bowl with the arrowroot powder until lightly coated, then drizzle with oil or melted ghee and toss again to cover evenly.
Spread the fries in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 200C for twenty to twenty-five minutes, flipping halfway through until crisp and golden brown.
Remove from the oven, sprinkle immediately with rock salt, roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder, and lemon juice, then toss with fresh coriander before serving warm.
