Sama Khichdi, made from barnyard millet (sama ke chawal), is a wholesome and light vrat recipe often cooked during Navratri. It is easy to digest and pairs beautifully with curd or peanut chutney.
1 cup sama rice (barnyard millet) 2 cups water 1 medium potato (cubed) 2 green chillies (chopped) 1 tbsp ghee ½ tsp cumin seeds Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste Fresh coriander (chopped)
Wash and soak sama rice for 10–15 minutes.
Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, green chillies, and cubed potato, sauté until slightly soft.
Add soaked sama rice and water, season with rock salt.
Cook on low flame until rice is soft and water is absorbed.
Garnish with coriander and serve with curd.
