Makhana Kheer is a creamy and fragrant sweet dish prepared with foxnuts, milk, sugar, and dry fruits. It is a traditional offering on Day 1 of Navratri to Goddess Shailputri and is enjoyed as prasad after puja.
1 cup makhana (foxnuts) 1 litre full cream milk ½ cup sugar (or to taste) 1 tbsp ghee ½ tsp cardamom powder 2 tbsp chopped almonds and cashews 1 tbsp raisins A few saffron strands (optional)
Heat ghee in a pan and roast makhanas until crisp. Crush lightly.
Boil milk in a deep pan and add roasted makhanas.
Cook on low flame until the milk thickens.
Stir in sugar, cardamom powder, saffron, and dry fruits.
Serve warm or chilled as bhog prasad for Day 1 of Navratri.
