Fluffy urad dal bondas dipped in a bowl of thin, moong dal ‘soup’ is a match not made in heaven but in Karnataka. Kannadigas, especially people in Mysore, love this one-pot breakfast meal. Here’s a quick guide on making bonda soup.
1 cup urad dal 2 chillies, chopped 2, 1-inch of ginger, chopped A few curry leaves 2 tablespoons of chopped coriander leaves ½ teaspoon of pepper Salt as needed Oil as needed ¾ cup of moong daal soup ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder
1 tomato, chopped 1 teaspoon of mustard 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds 2 tablespoons of coconut, grated 1 tablespoon of lemon juice 2 tablespoons of onions, chopped
Soak the urad dal in water for 2 hours. Drain the water. Grind it in a mixer.
Add water and keep on grinding until a fluffy paste. Transfer into a bowl.
Add the lemon juice. Grind it for a few seconds.
Add chilli, ginger, curry leaves, coriander, pepper and salt. Combine and beat the mixture.
Take some in your hand and begin to fry them in hot oil until golden brown.
In a soup bowl, place one bonda. Pour 2-4 ladles of moong dal soup.
Garish with chopped onions and coriander leaves. Serve bonda soup.
