Bhel puri is crunchy, tangy, spicy, and a bit sweet in every bite. This Mumbai-style snack can be prepared in minutes using basic pantry staples, making it ideal for when cravings hit or guests arrive suddenly.
2 cups puffed rice (murmura) ½ cup boiled potatoes, finely chopped ¼ cup boiled chickpeas (or peanuts) ¼ cup finely chopped onion ¼ cup finely chopped tomato 2 tbsp green chutney 2 tbsp tamarind-date chutney ½ tsp red chilli powder ½ tsp chaat masala Salt to taste 2 tbsp chopped coriander ¼ cup sev 6–8 papdi, crushed
In a large mixing bowl, add 2 cups of puffed rice, making sure it is crisp to make a crunchy base.
To this, add boiled potatoes, chickpeas, onion, and tomato. Toss it gently so the vegetables coat the puffed rice evenly.
Add green chutney and imli chutney to this, and adjust the quantities to balance spice, sweetness, and tang as per preference.
Sprinkle the red chilli powder, chaat masala, and salt into it, then toss quickly so that the flavours are distributed without being soggy.
Add the crushed papdi and sev to it, to maintain crispiness and avoid breaking the puffed rice.
Lastly, garnish with the remaining sev and chopped coriander. Serve it immediately to enjoy the crunch and that classic street-style flavour.
