On the days when you miss home and feel too homesick to cook, a bowl of khichdi can elevate your mood, without spending hours in the kitchen. For homestyle moong dal khichdi, follow these 6 steps.
1 cup split moong dal 1 cup rice 3 tablespoons ghee 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon hing 1 tablespoon ginger 1/2 tablespoon garlic 1/2 teaspoon turmeric 1 teaspoon black peppercorns Salt to taste 2.5 cups water Coriander leaves (for garnish)
Rinse and soak moong dal and rice for at least half an hour.
Heat the ghee and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and hing.
Add grated ginger, minced garlic, turmeric, and black peppercorns, and saute.
Add the tadka with the soaked rice and dal to a pressure cooker. Season with salt.
Pour in water, close the lid, and cook for 4-5 whistles on medium heat.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and some ghee, and serve hot with a side of dahi.
