Mom-Style Dal Tadka: Make The North Indian Comfort Food When You’re Homesick

Dal tadka is one of the go-to comfort foods that reminds you of home. To get the same taste of that tadke vali dal, scroll through this North Indian recipe. Pair with chawal and get the maa ke haath ka swaad.

Ingredients

1 cup yellow moong dal 3 cups water 1 onion 1 tomato 1-2 green chillies 1 inch of ginger 2-3 cloves garlic 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 1/2 tsp coriander powder 1/4 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp cumin seeds Pinch hing 2 tbsp ghee Salt to taste Chopped coriander for garnish

Step 1

Rinse moong dal, transfer to a pressure cooker, add water, and cook for 2-3 whistles.

Step 2

Heat some oil and add jeera and hing. Add ginger, garlic, onion, and green chillies and saute.

Step 3

Mix in chopped tomato and cook till soft. Add all the spices, and your tadka will be ready.

Step 4

Gently mash the cooked dal, then pour the tadka over it. Add salt and simmer for 5 minutes.

Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with rice or roti.
