Mix dal tadka is a staple in several parts of North and West India. Paired with steamed rice, it makes a wholesome meal loaded with protein and nutrition. Here is a quick recipe to make restaurant-style dal tadka at home.
2 tbsp black urad dal 1 tbsp lobia dal 2 tbsp green moong dal 1 tbsp ghee/ butter Salt to taste ½ tsp cumin A pinch of turmeric, garam masala 1-inch ginger 1 tsp red chilli powder 1 tomato, onion, green chilli 2-3 garlic cloves 2 tbsp coriander leaves 1.5 cups water
Soak the lentils overnight or at least for a couple of hours.
Pressure cook the lentils with water, salt, turmeric powder, and slit green chilli.
While the lentils cook, saute garlic, garlic, and ginger with cumin seeds.
Add a pinch of turmeric and when the onion is slightly brown, add tomatoes.
After 3-4 whistles, turn off the heat. Pour the lentils into the pan. Add powdered spices.
Adjust the consistency with water. Garnish mix dal tadka with coriander leaves and serve with rice.
