Millet Upma: Gluten-Free Snack Or Breakfast Ready In Minutes

Upma, the staple South Indian breakfast, can be turned healthier and gluten-free. Ready in minutes, you can make millet upma with this simple recipe and enjoy it as a guilt-free snack or healthy breakfast.

Ingredients

1 cup mixed millets (a combination of ragi, jowar, bajra, and foxtail millet) 1 tablespoon ghee 1/2 cup chopped onions 1/4 cup chopped carrots 1/4 cup chopped green peas 1/4 cup chopped green beans 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 dried red chilli 1 cup water Salt to taste

Step 1

Heat some ghee and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and dried red chilli.

Step 2

Add chopped onion, carrot, peas, and beans. Cook till they are soft.

Step 3

Stir in the mixed millet and turmeric powder. Cook for a few minutes.

Step 4

Gradually add water, and stir until the millets are cooked.

Step 5

Season with salt to taste. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
