Idli is a South Indian staple that can be enjoyed as a healthy breakfast or light snack. While traditionally made with urad dal, you can also use masoor dal. Make the idlis high in protein with this recipe.
1 cup masoor dal ½ cup urad dal 1 inch of ginger 2-3 green chillies 1 teaspoon cumin seeds ½ teaspoon hing 8-10 curry leaves Salt to taste 1 tablespoon oil
Rinse and soak masoor dal and urad dal separately overnight.
Drain excess water and grind the lentils till you get a smooth batter.
Add grated ginger, chopped green chillies, cumin seeds, hing, curry leaves, and salt.
Let the batter ferment. Heat some oil and add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Mix the tempering with the batter and pour into idli moulds.
Steam to perfection and serve the masoor dal idlis with sambar and chutney.
