This prawn curry is a flavourful coastal dish made with prawns simmered in a rich, coconut-based gravy infused with tamarind, spices, and aromatic masalas. This tangy, mildly spicy curry pairs perfectly with rice, offering a taste of Goa’s delicious cuisine.
500 gms prawns 1 can of coconut milk 2 tbsp coconut oil 1 onion 2 green chillies 1-inch ginger 4-5 garlic cloves 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tbsp coriander powder 1 tsp cumin powder 1 tbsp red chilli powder 2 tsp tamarind paste Salt
Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
Add the minced ginger, garlic, and green chillies. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and red chilli powder to the pan. Sauté for a minute.
Add the coconut coconut milk and tamarind paste to the pan. Pour in 1 cup of water and stir to combine. Let the gravy simmer for 5-7 minutes on low heat.
Add the cleaned prawns to the simmering gravy. Cook for 5-7 minutes. Don’t overcook the prawns, as they can become tough.
Serve the Goan prawn curry hot with steamed rice or Goan bread.
