Kheer, a creamy and comforting Indian dessert traditionally made with rice, can also be enjoyed in a healthier version. Make the dessert gluten-free, try this quick makhana kheer recipe and enjoy.

Ingredients

1 cup makhana 3 cups milk 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder A pinch of saffron strands A handful of chopped almonds and cashews

Step 1

Rinse and soak the makhana for half an hour.

Step 2

Boil the soaked makhana in milk. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Step 3

Add sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands to the pot. Stir well.

Step 4

Let the kheer simmer till you get the desired consistency.

Step 5

Garnish with chopped almonds and cashew nuts, and serve.
