Amla achar is a gooseberry pickle, very popular in Indian homes during the winters. The pickle uses mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and red chilli powder. If you love pickles, follow this step-by-step guide.
250 grams of gooseberries, fresh 2 tablespoons of oil 1 teaspoon of mustard oil ½ teaspoon of fenugreek seeds ¼ teaspoon of asafoetida ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder 2 teaspoons of red chilli powder Salt to taste 2 tablespoons of liquid jaggery
Wash the gooseberries. Pat them dry. Cut them into small pieces. Remove the seeds.
Heat oil in a pan. Add the fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
Add in the gooseberries. Then, add the turmeric powder, salt, red chilli powder and jaggery. Mix well.
Cook it for 5-7 minutes. Remove from the heat. Let it cool. Transfer it into a jar or pickle jar.
Serve amla achar with your choice of meal.
