The Japanese tempura is a popular deep-fried accompaniment made using vegetables, seafood or meat dipped in a light batter that is famed for its distinct crunch. This World Tempura Day, learn the method to make the perfect batter at home.
¾ cup all-purpose flour 1 cup ice cold water 1 large egg 1 pinch salt
Ensure that all the ingredients are refrigerated for at least 30-45 minutes before preparation.
Add the egg to a bowl and whisk using chopsticks before adding the water.
Mix well to combine before tipping in the flour to make a lumpy and uneven batter.
Dip any vegetable, seafood or protein of choice in the batter and fry in hot oil.
