Tacos come in various types, each with its own unique characteristics. Hard-shell tacos and soft-shell tacos are popular everywhere. These usually consist of seasoned ground meat, cheese, lettuce, and other toppings as per your preferences. This is a super-easy recipe you can try at home for a quick snack!
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro 1 cup diced onions Lime wedges 1 cup sliced avocados Salsa or hot sauce, optional 900g meat chuck roast, cut into large chunks 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped 4 cloves of garlic, minced 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, minced 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons lime juice
2 teaspoons ground cumin 2 teaspoons dried oregano 1 teaspoon ground coriander 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon black pepper ½ cup meat broth 2 cups masa harina flour ½ cup hot water ½ teaspoon salt
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, water, and salt. Stir in additional water until the dough is firm but moist. Cover it and let it rest for an hour. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll into balls.
Gently flatten dough balls between two pieces of wax paper, using a tortilla press.
Transfer the tortilla, paper-side up, to a preheated skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
Remove wax paper. Cook the tortilla on both sides until light brown. Transfer the tortillas to a tortilla warmer or wrap in foil to keep warm.
Make a marinade by combining the chopped onion, minced garlic, minced chipotle peppers, apple cider vinegar, lime juice, cumin, oregano, coriander, salt, and black pepper.
Place the meat chunks in the marinade and toss to coat them evenly. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
Preheat your oven to 160°C. Heat a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil. Sear the meat chunks until browned.
Add the broth to the pot. Cover with a lid, transfer it to the preheated oven, and slow-cook for about 3–4 hours until tender.
Warm your tortillas either on a dry skillet or in the oven. Place a portion of meat on each tortilla. Serve tacos with cilantro, onions, avocado, and a squeeze of lime juice.
