Make South Indian Nannari, A Refreshing Summer Cooler To Sip On

Also known as naruneendi or Indian sarsaparilla, it is a traditional summer drink from South India that offers a cool respite from the scorching heat. Its unique flavour makes it a popular choice among locals.

Ingredients

1 cup of nanari roots 2 cups sugar 4 cups water 3 tbsp lemon juice Cold water as needed

Step 1

Take the nannari roots and remove the centre part. Crush lightly.

Step 2

Add to the blender. Crush. Remove from the blender and soak in cold water overnight.

Step 3

Drain water and place it in the pot. Add sugar and lemon juice. Bring to a boil.

Step 4

Boil for 20-35 minutes until syrupy. Cool it and store in an airtight container.

Step 5

Take some syrup in a cup or glass, and add lemon juice. Add cold water and serve.

Step 6

Nannari is known to purify the blood, improve digestion, and act as a diuretic, helping in detoxification.
