Maharashtrian Style Ambe Dal, A Mango-Infused Dish Fit For Summers

Ambe dal, also known as kairichi dal, is a cool salad or chutney made with mangoes. It is typically served during the Chaitra Gauri Haldi Kumkum ritual.

Ingredients

½ cup raw mangoes ½ cup split chickpeas or chana dal 1 green chilli, slit from the middle ½ cup fresh coconut Coriander leaves Curry leaves, as needed Hing, as needed Mustard oil Mustard seeds, as needed Red chillies, as needed Salt

Step 1

Wash and soak chana dal for 3-5 hours.  Transfer to a mixer jar. Add green chilli. Turn into paste.

Step 2

While grinding into a paste, add some water. Keep aside.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, add raw mangoes, chana dal paste, salt, sugar, coconut and chopped coriander.

Step 4

Mix well. For tempering, heat a small pan with mustard oil. Add red chilli, hing, curry leaves and mustard seeds.

Step 5

Let it splutter. Pour into the chana dal mixture. Mix well. Refrigerate. Serve!
