Puttu is a rice-based breakfast dish popularly made in parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Sri Lanka. It is often served with sweets and savouries on the side. Here is a quick recipe for you to try at home if you have been a fan of Kerala-style puttu.
½ cup water 1 cup puttu flour ½ cup grated coconut Salt to taste
You can either make puttu flour at home or get it from a supermarket. Add half a teaspoon of salt to it.
In a cylindrical vessel, add a perforated disc, and layer it with grated coconut and puttu flour.
Cover the lid of the container and place it inside a steamer.
Once you witness steam releasing from the vents of the container, turn off the flame.
Allow puttu to cool off for a few minutes before you take it out on a plate.
Serve the dish hot with vegetable stew, kadala curry, chickpea curry, or even potato stew.
