The classic Korean tteokbokki is made with chewy rice cakes called ‘tteok’, which are typically stir-fried in a sauce that combines flavours of spice, sweetness, and umami, containing gochujang, soy sauce, and sugar. This simple recipe is perfect to whip up in a snap before watching your fav K-drama.
350 grams of Korean rice cakes (Tteokbokki) 2 cups of vegetable stock 60 grams of onions, thinly sliced 3 tablespoons of gochunjang sauce 1 and ½ teaspoons of raw sugar 1 teaspoon of minced garlic 1 teaspoon of gochugaru 1 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds 4-5 green onions, chopped Sesame oil
Soak rice cakes in warm water for 10 minutes.
In a pot, boil the vegetable stock on medium heat. Add the sauce into the water. Mix it.
Add in the rice cakes. Mix it well until all of them are covered in the sauce. Cook the rice cakes for 6-8 minutes.
Add the sesame seeds, green onions and sesame oil. Give it a few gentle stirs
Serve tteokbokki, warm and fresh!
