Kulukki Sharbat is Kerala’s favourite shaken lemonade, prepared by blending lemon, green chillies, basil seeds, and crushed ice. This spicy-sweet summer beverage is shaken vigorously instead of being stirred like a regular lemonade, giving it a refreshing taste.
2 lemons 2 tbsp sugar syrup 1 green chilli, sliced 1 tsp soaked basil seeds ½ tsp salt ¼ tsp crushed black pepper 2 cups chilled water 1 cup ice cubes Mint leaves for garnish
Soak some basil seeds in water for at least ten minutes until it gets swollen.
In a shaker or bottle, squeeze fresh lemon juice to give the Kulukki sharbat its sharp, tangy and incredibly refreshing flavour.
Mix the sliced green chillies, salt, black pepper and sugar syrup into the lemon juice.
Add in some soaked basil seeds and lots of ice cubes into the shaker to keep it chilled.
Close the shaker tightly and shake it for at least a minute.
In the tall glass, pour the prepared sharbat and garnish with mint leaves or lemon slices and enjoy the cool Kerala-style Kulukki Sharbat.
