Kerala-style coconut chutney is known for its nutty flavour, rustic notes, and a hint of spiciness. You can serve it with staples like dosa, idli, vada, appam, and uttapam, or it can accompany a full-fledged South Indian meal. Follow this guide to make it at home.
1-2 green chillies 1.5 cups grated coconut ½ tsp urad dal 1 tsp ginger ½ tsp mustard seeds Salt to taste 1 dry red chilli ½ tsp roasted chana dal 7-8 curry leaves 1 tbsp oil
In a teaspoon of oil, roast chana dal and keep it aside.
Add coconut, ginger, green chillies, chana dal, and urad dal in a blender.
Once you have a smooth blend, pour it into a jar or container.
Heat coconut oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, red chilli, and curry leaves.
When seeds start to splutter, pour them over the coconut chutney.
Enjoy this condiment with your favourite South Indian dishes and meals.
