A traditional Karwa Chauth sargi thali has fresh fruit, nuts, mithai, seviyan and a filling breakfast that is usually eaten before sunrise. The thali usually combines familiar festive foods with protein-rich options and enough fluids to help maintain energy and manage hunger pangs during the day-long fast.
Place a roti or paratha paired with paneer or cooked vegetables for a filling breakfast. This combination provides carbohydrates and protein before the fast begins.
Add a banana, apple or any seasonal fruit of your choice. Fruit gives enough fibre and water, making it a useful addition to the pre-fast meal.
Place dry fruits such as almonds, walnuts and dates in a small bowl. These provide energy, healthy fats and some fibre, and a slow release of energy.
Serve curd along with a small portion of seviyan kheer. Curd gives protein and calcium, whereas the seviyan kheer ends the meal on a sweet note.
Drink enough water before the fast starts. You can also have coconut water to help you stay well hydrated throughout the fast and keep thirst at bay.
