Kanda Bhaji: Try This Monsoon Special South Indian Snack

Kanda bhaji, or vengaya bajji, is one of the most popular South Indian street foods. These crispy fritters are the perfect accompaniment to a hot cup of tea or coffee, especially during the monsoon season.

Ingredients

2 onions, sliced thinly 1 cup besan 1/4 cup rice flour 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds A pinch of baking soda Salt to taste Oil for deep frying

Step 1

Mix besan, rice flour,  red chilli powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, baking soda, and salt.

Step 2

Gradually add water to make a smooth batter.

Step 3

Slice the onions and coat with the batter. Heat some oil and deep-fry till crispy.

Step 4

Drain excess oil and serve with your favourite chutney.
