Kanda batata poha, featuring sliced onions and chopped potatoes, is a classic South Indian breakfast perfect for busy mornings. Topped with roasted peanuts, here’s how you can make kanda batata poha.

Ingredients

1.5 cups flattened rice 1 tablespoon oil 2 tablespoons roasted peanuts ½ teaspoon mustard seeds 10 curry leaves 1 onion 1 potato ¼ cup peas ¼ cup chopped tomato ½ teaspoon turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon red chilli powder Salt to taste Lemon juice for garnishing

Step 1

Rinse the flattened rice till they soften a bit, and set them aside.

Step 2

Heat some oil and saute mustard seeds, curry leaves, and chopped onion.

Step 3

Mix in peas, chopped potato, tomatoes, turmeric powder, salt, and red chilli powder.

Step 4

When the tomatoes are soft, add rinsed flattened rice and mix well.

Step 5

Cook for about five minutes and garnish with roasted peanuts and lemon juice. Serve it hot.
