Upma is a popular South Indian breakfast option that is not only nutritious but also delicious. To make it healthier, you can use jowar, which boasts a high protein and fibre content. Follow this 5-step recipe.
¾ cup jowar 1 onion ¾ cup mixed vegetables 1 cup water 1 teaspoon urad dal ½ teaspoon cumin seeds ½ teaspoon mustard seeds 1 pinch hing 2 green chillies Salt to taste Oil for cooking ¼ cup fresh grated coconut Lemon juice for garnishing Coriander leaves for garnishing
Wash jowar, add it to a pressure cooker with a cup of water, and cook for two whistles.
Heat some oil and add cumin and mustard seeds till they splutter. Add urad dal and fry till golden brown.
Sauté chopped onions, green chillies, and chopped vegetables and cook till they are soft.
Season with hing and salt. Add cooked jowar and mix well.
Stir in grated coconut and lemon juice. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, and enjoy.
