Kalakand is a milky Indian sweet loved for its soft and melt-in-mouth texture. With just a few basic ingredients, it is easy to make this sweet at home in minutes, perfect for celebrations or dessert cravings.
1 litre of full-fat milk 200 g crumbled paneer ½ cup condensed milk 3–4 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste) 2 tbsp ghee ¼ tsp cardamom powder 8–10 pistachios, slivered 8–10 almonds, slivered Few saffron strands (optional)
In a heavy-bottomed pan, boil 1 litre of full-fat milk until it reduces a bit.
Add about 200 g crumbled paneer to the milk and stir constantly on medium flame. Cook until the mixture gets a thick consistency and turns grainy.
Pour in about half a cup of condensed milk and 3 to 4 tbsp sugar. Stir and mix well till the mixture starts to leave the sides.
Add 2 tbsp ghee and ¼ tsp cardamom powder to this mixture. Cook for another 2–3 minutes till it turns fragrant and gets a thicker consistency.
Grease the tray with ghee and spread the kalakand mixture evenly on it.
Garnish with sliced almonds, pistachios, and saffron. Cool it thoroughly, keep it in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours, then cut it into square shapes.
