Fruit compote is a delicious way to liven up your favourite breakfast meals, desserts, and even savoury dishes because it is sweet, fruity and ofcourse healthy. With winter already here, using strawberries is a must-do in your kitchen. Using it as a spread, for a shake or for desserts is all the more fun? Strawberry compote is one such spread that is delectably fruity, vibrant, and sweet. Here is a simple recipe to use at home.
500 grams of fresh strawberries 2 tablespoons of water 2 teaspoons of cornflour 1 tablespoon of lemon juice 1 teaspoon of lemon zest 1 cup of cane sugar
After cleaning and stemming, cut the strawberries in half or quarters.
In a small bowl, mix together the cornflour and water.
In medium pot, add the cornflour mixture. Add the lemon zest, cane sugar, and strawberries.
Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes, or until it thickens.
Add in the lemon juice, pour it in and simmer for a few more minutes. After turning off the heat, leave the pot open for ten minutes.
Warm or cold, serve your compote over pancakes, ice cream, waffles, French toast, and more.
