Plain dosa is a thin, crispy South Indian dish made from fermented rice and urad dal batter. Light, wholesome, and golden in texture, it pairs perfectly with chutneys and sambar, making a delightful breakfast or dinner.
2 cups rice ½ cup urad dal (split black gram) 1 tbsp chana dal (optional, for crispness) ½ tsp fenugreek seeds Salt to taste Oil or ghee for cooking
Soak rice, urad dal, chana dal, and fenugreek seeds in water for 6–8 hours.
Grind the soaked ingredients into a smooth, thick yet pourable batter by adding water as required.
Ferment overnight or 8–10 hours in a warm place until it doubles in volume.
Add salt and mix well before making dosas.
Heat a pan, spread a ladle of batter thinly, drizzle ghee, and cook until crisp.
