Modak, the sweet synonymous with Ganesh Chaturthi, is a luscious jaggery-filled treat. However, you need not wait for the festival to make modaks. Here’s an easy modak recipe you can recreate.
For the dough: 1 cup rice flour 1¼ cups water 1 tsp ghee A pinch of salt For the filling: 1 cup coconut ¾ cup jaggery ½ tsp cardamom powder 1 tsp ghee 1 tbsp chopped nuts
Heat some ghee and add grated coconut and jaggery. Stir in cardamom powder and chopped nuts.
Cook the filling till the jaggery melts, and then let it cool.
In another pan, boil water and add salt and some ghee. Mix in rice flour and knead a smooth dough.
Divide the dough into small balls, flatten them, place a spoonful of filling, and pleat the edges.
Once sealed, steam the modaks for about 10 minutes. Brush with a little ghee and serve.
