Malvani thecha fish blends fresh seafood and Maharashtra's famous green chilli-garlic thecha. This spicy fish dish brings home the comforts of a summer coastal meal.
500g fish fillets 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tbsp lemon juice 10-12 green chillies 8 garlic cloves 2 tbsp fresh coconut 1 tbsp peanuts 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tbsp coriander leaves 1 tbsp oil Curry leaves, as needed Onion rings, as needed Lemon wedges Salt, to taste
Wash and pat dry the fish pieces. Rub in turmeric, salt, and lemon juice. Allow it to marinate for 15-20 minutes.
Roast the peanuts, garlic, and green chillies briefly. Grind together coconut, cumin, coriander, and salt to make a coarse spicy paste.
Spread the thecha mixture generously on the fish pieces. Allow the flavours to soak in for 10 minutes.
Heat the oil in a skillet, then add the curry leaves. Place the fish gently and cook over medium heat.
Flip carefully and heat until both sides are crispy and slightly charred.
Serve alongside onion rings, lemon wedges, and steaming rice or bhakri.
