How To Make Karnataka’s Methi Atta Halwa: A 7 Step Guide

Also called ‘Mentyadaduge’, in other parts of Karnataka, it is a healthy and tasty traditional dessert from Kalasa and Basarikatte. This delicacy is perfect for colder weather since it combines fenugreek (methi), jaggery, and ghee to provide warmth and sustenance. Fenugreek is believed to improve digestion and strengthen immunity, keeping you healthy throughout the winter.

Ingredients

1 cup methi powder or fenugreek powder 4 cups of wheat flour 4 cups of jaggery powder 10 cups of water 1 cup of ghee ½  tsp of cardamom powder 1 cup of chopped nuts, for garnish

Step 1

Dissolve the jaggery in 10 cups of water in a large mixing bowl.

Step 2

Sieve to get rid of any contaminants.

Step 3

In another mixing bowl,  combine wheat flour and methi powder. Make sure it is lump-free.

Step 4

Strain the mixture into the jaggery water.

Step 5

Take a heavy-bottomed pan, heat it. Pour the mixture slowly into the pot.

Step 6

Cook, stirring constantly, over low heat until the mixture thickens. Add ghee gradually while stirring till the halwa is off the pan's surface from one side.

Step 7

For added taste, sprinkle with chopped almonds and add cardamom powder.

Step 8

Savour the classic flavour of mentyadaduge or methi atta halwa served warm!
