How To Make Karnataka Special Akki Roti At Home

Akki roti is a beloved Karnataka comfort food made with rice flour and simple ingredients. Soft inside with lightly crisp edges, it’s filling yet gentle, perfect for breakfast or lunch. What makes it special is how easily it comes together, no fermentation, no rolling pin, just hands and patience.

Ingredients

Rice flour- 2 cups Finely chopped onion- ½ cup Chopped green chilli- 1 tsp Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp Cumin seeds- 1 tsp Grated coconut- 2 tbsp Salt to taste Water according to consistency Oil

Step 1

In a big bowl, add rice flour, add some salt, and cumin seeds.

Step 2

Add chopped onion, green chilli, coriander and grated coconut, mix it well.

Step 3

Gradually add a bit of water, and knead until you have a soft dough.

Step 4

Split the dough into even-sized portions.

Step 5

Grease a plastic sheet or a banana leaf with a bit of oil.

Step 6

Place a ball of dough on it, then take some water and apply it on your fingers and gently press it out into a thin, flat circle.

Step 7

Heat a tawa and carefully place the roti on it.

Step 8

Drizzle a bit of oil around the edges and cook until it's nice and golden on both sides.

Step 9

Serve it with some chutney, butter or curd.
