Do you want to make soft and fluffy idlis, but don’t have an idli maker? Don’t worry, you can still make idlis at home. Here are some steps you can follow to make the South Indian staple using basic kitchen tools.
1 cup idli rice ¼ cup urad dal Salt to taste Water as needed Oil for greasing
Soak and grind rice and urad dal separately to make a smooth batter.
Mix the batters and add salt. Ferment for at least 8-12 hours or till the batter is doubled.
Place trivet in a large pot, add water below trivet level, and bring to a boil.
Grease small bowls and pour batter ⅔ full. Arrange bowls on the trivet in the pot.
Cover tightly and steam for 12-15 mins. Let it cool, and arrange the idlis in a plate.
Serve hot with sambar and nariyal ki chutney.
