Marinara sauce is a classic and tasty sauce made with Roma tomatoes, which are extensively used in Italian-American cuisine. Here is the recipe for making marinara sauce from scratch.
8 to 9 cups of Roma tomatoes 2 tablespoons of olive oil 6 cloves of garlic 1 teaspoon salt 1 ⅕ teaspoons of dried oregano 3 tablespoons of fresh basil 2 chilli peppers
Rinse the tomatoes with water and remove the stems. Place the tomatoes in a pan with a baking sheet. Transfer to an oven grill until the skin of the tomatoes looks curly and thickens.
Let them cool. Start heating a large pot over medium heat with a drop of olive oil. Add about 6 coarsely chopped garlic.
When the tomato is peeled and drained, toss it into the pot along with a tablespoon of salt, a few chopped basil leaves, and dried oregano.
Add chopped chilli peppers or a spoonful of red chilli flakes to add some spiciness. Let it simmer and cook over medium heat.
Transfer the sauce to a blender, and beat it a few times for a completely smooth sauce.
Put the sauce back in the pan and continue cooking for an hour.
Add salt and herbs to your liking. Use marinara sauce immediately or store it in the refrigerator in airtight containers for a week.
