Chow chow bath is a traditional Karnataka meal where khara bath (savory) and kesari bath (sweet) are served together on the same plate. The contrast of flavours is intentional and reflects temple-style cooking where balance is central. Both components are prepared separately but served together.
Khara Bath: Rava (semolina) Mixed vegetables Mustard seeds Curry leaves Green chilli Ghee or oil Salt Kesari Bath: Rava Sugar Ghee Water Cardamom Saffron
Dry roast rava separately for both preparations on low heat until aromatic, then keep aside.
For khara bath, heat ghee or oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies and ginger, then sauté vegetables until just tender.
Add water and salt to the khara bath base, bring to a boil, stir in rava and cook until soft and smooth.
For kesari bath, boil water with sugar and cardamom, saffron add ghee,.
Stir in rava and cook until glossy and lump-free.
Serve side by side on the same plate and eat alternately.
