Broken wheat upma, also known as dalia upma or godhumai rava upma, is a wholesome and fibre-rich South Indian breakfast dish. Made from cracked wheat, it's light on the stomach yet filling, making it perfect for a healthy start to the day
1 cup broken wheat (dalia) 2 tsp oil or ghee 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp urad dal 1 tsp chana dal 1 chopped green chilli 1 inch chopped ginger 1 chopped onion 1 chopped carrot 5-6 chopped beans 2½ cups water Salt to taste Curry leaves & coriander leaves
Roast dalia in a dry pan until light golden, and set aside.
In oil, splutter mustard seeds, then add urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, green chilli, and ginger.
Sauté onions, then add chopped veggies and cook for 2-3 mins.
Add water, salt and bring to a boil, then stir in roasted dalia.
Cover and cook on low heat for 10-12 mins until water is absorbed and dalia is soft. Garnish with coriander.
