How To Make Broken Wheat Upma - A Nutritious South Indian Breakfast

Broken wheat upma, also known as dalia upma or godhumai rava upma, is a wholesome and fibre-rich South Indian breakfast dish. Made from cracked wheat, it's light on the stomach yet filling, making it perfect for a healthy start to the day

Ingredients

1 cup broken wheat (dalia) 2 tsp oil or ghee 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp urad dal 1 tsp chana dal 1 chopped green chilli 1 inch chopped ginger 1 chopped onion 1 chopped carrot 5-6 chopped beans 2½ cups water Salt to taste Curry leaves & coriander leaves

Step 1

Roast dalia in a dry pan until light golden, and set aside.

Step 2

In oil, splutter mustard seeds, then add urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, green chilli, and ginger.

Step 3

Sauté onions, then add chopped veggies and cook for 2-3 mins.

Step 4

Add water, salt and bring to a boil, then stir in roasted dalia.

Step 5

Cover and cook on low heat for 10-12 mins until water is absorbed and dalia is soft. Garnish with coriander.
