Homemade tomato sauce is lighter, fresher, and has the goodness of natural ingredients. This sauce can be used for pasta, pizzas, and everyday snacking.

Ingredients

1 kg ripe red tomatoes, chopped 2 tbsp olive oil 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp salt ½ tsp black pepper powder ½ tsp dried oregano or mixed herbs ¼ cup water

Step 1

In a pan, heat olive oil and add chopped onion and garlic to it. Sauté it lightly until it turns soft and aromatic.

Step 2

Add the chopped tomatoes to this and cook on medium heat until they turn soft and begin to release their juices, turning a bit pulpy.

Step 3

Pour in water, cover, and let it simmer for about 10–12 minutes, letting the flavours blend while the sauce thickens naturally.

Step 4

Add some salt, sugar, black pepper, and dried herbs. Stir everything well to balance the sharpness

Step 5

Let the mixture cool down a bit, then blend the sauce until it gets a smooth consistency or keep it a little chunky, as per preference.

Step 6

Cook it again for a few minutes, uncovered, until it gets shiny and thickens a bit. Let it cool a bit and store appropriately in an airtight jar.
