Gur ka halwa is a winter dessert that feels like pure comfort in every bite. Prepared with jaggery, ghee, and atta or suji, it is rich, nutty, and mildly sweet, ideal for cold evenings.

Ingredients

1 cup atta or suji (semolina) 1 cup grated jaggery (gur) ½ cup ghee 2½ cups water or milk (or mix) Some chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, raisins) ½ tsp cardamom powder

Step 1

In a pan, heat ½ cup of ghee. On a low flame, add 1 cup atta or suji and roast it until it turns golden and aromatic.

Step 2

In another pan, heat the 2 cups of water or milk and add 1 cup of grated jaggery. Mix till the jaggery melts fully.

Step 3

Remove the impurities, if any and again boil the jaggery gently on a low flame.

Step 4

Slowly pour hot jaggery syrup on the roasted atta/suji, while mixing constantly to avoid lumps.

Step 5

Cook on a low flame and mix till the halwa thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.

Step 6

Add in ½ tsp cardamom powder and 2 tbsp chopped nuts. Serve warm, garnished with some extra nuts.
