Falsa is a tiny, dark purple berry with a fleeting season and legendary cooling properties. While often eaten with a pinch of salt, blending it into buttermilk creates a sweet-tart, probiotic powerhouse. The astringency of the berry cuts through the richness of the yogurt, making it a much more complex and refreshing hydrator than plain chaas.
1/2 cup fresh Falsa berries 2 cups chilled yogurt (Curd) 1 cup ice-cold water 1 tsp black salt (Kala Namak) 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder (Bhuna Jeera) Fresh mint leaves for garnish
Wash the berries. Mash them in a bowl with a little water to loosen the pulp from the seeds. Strain through a sieve to collect the concentrated purple juice.
Whisk the yogurt and cold water until frothy.
Stir in the falsa extract, black salt, and roasted cumin powder.
Pour into tall glasses over ice and garnish with mint. The result is a beautiful pink, tangy buttermilk that acts as a natural electrolyte to lower body heat instantly.
