Ukadiche modak is synonymous with Ganesh Chaturthi. The steamed staple that is a must-add to the Ganpati Puja festive thali. Here’s how you can make the Maharashtrian sweet at home.
1 cup rice flour 1 cup water 1 tsp ghee A pinch of salt 1 cup grated coconut ¾ cup grated jaggery ½ tsp cardamom powder 1 tsp ghee 1-2 tbsp chopped nuts
Heat some ghee and cook the grated coconut and jaggery. Mix in cardamom powder and nuts. Set aside.
Knead the dough with hot water mixed with ghee and salt. Once smooth, cover, and let the dough rest.
Divide the dough into small balls, roll them into discs, and place the filling in the centre.
Pleat the edges and bring the modak together. Seal the top and steam for 10-12 minutes.
Top the steamed Ukadiche modak with ghee and serve.
