Making French fries seems like the easiest job when you are standing at a counter of any large burger chain, overlooking the kitchen. But when you replicate the recipe at home, the potatoes don’t turn out crispy. Here is how you can make restaurant-style fries at home.

Uniform Cuts

Cut the potatoes into an even size - ¼ to ¼-½ inch thick. You can use a serrated knife to get clean cuts and add to crispiness.

Rinse & Dry

After cutting fries, rinse them thoroughly and dry them with a paper towel. Deep-frying wet ones will lead to oil spills and make fries soggy.

Pick Right Potatoes

Opt for starchy potatoes to make French fries. Starch adds to the crispiness because fries have less moisture.

Double-Frying

Hovering over the counter, many fail to notice that restaurants double-fry French fries. This helps to get rid of even the smallest amount of moisture.

Soak In Cold Water

Before rinsing, don’t forget to soak French fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes. This will help to get rid of excessive starch that can lead to sogginess.

Don’t Overcrowd Pan

Don’t overcrowd the pan because the fries won’t be cooked uniformly. Fry in small batches so that each piece achieves a golden brown colour and a perfect crispy texture.

Drain Oil

After frying, drain excess oil on a wire rack. If you put them on a tissue paper, the fries might get soggy, and all your hard work will go in vain.
